Using, Minimizing and Displaying the Ribbon

You can set the ribbon to minimize automatically to maximize your workspace. If you click on the tab you want, the ribbon appears temporarily. The ribbon also appears temporarily if you press the [Alt] key to show the access key and select a tab.

Using Access Keys for Menu Items

Context

You can use access keys for quickly accessing ribbon, application menu and toolbar commands. You can also access certain commands using shortcut keys; you can find out what these are in the respective menu item's tool tip.

How to proceed
  1. Press and release the [Alt] key.

    The access keys are shown.

  2. Press the access key or key combination which applies to the tab or command you want.

Depending on the hierarchy, further access keys may appear.

    Tip:

Click the [Alt] key again to cancel the action and remove the access keys.

  3. Press the desired access keys until you get to the desired command.

The desired command is then executed.

Creating Elements from the Gallery Using Drag-and-Drop

You can drag elements from the control element gallery and drop them where you want them in a diagram to create them.

Icons show whether the element can be placed in the current position or not.

Hiding the Ribbon

Context

You can never have too much room in your workspace. This is why it is possible to minimize the ribbon so it only shows the tab bar.

Tip:

You can get the maximum amount of space for diagrams and tables in your workspace by being in full screen mode ([F11]) and with a minimized ribbon. Menu items can still be accessed and you can get rid of full screen mode by clicking on [F11] so you can work with the tool windows.

How to proceed
  1. Double-click on the tab in the ribbon or on the arrow to the right in the tab bar to minimize the ribbon.

    The ribbon is minimized.

  2. Double-click on the tab or on the arrow to the right in the tab bar to see the ribbon again.

    The ribbon is expanded.

  3. Click on the tab or press the [Alt] key to temporarily show the ribbon so you can see the access keys.

The ribbon is expanded and then minimized again once you have selected your command or canceled your selection.
